Your Erasmus is a great way to experience the local city where you’re studying, but what about travelling around the country? This March we have had the opportunity to visit the Basque Country in the North of Spain, also known as Euskadi in their native language. Do you want to know more?
The trip started in Bilbao, where our colleagues from ESN Bilbao provided a wonderful tour around the city. We ate delicious pintxos and visited the enormous Guggenheim Museum. Did you know it has the shape of a boat and a rose? You just have to use a bit of imagination ;)
The second stop was San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, also known as Dragon Stone for all those Game of Thrones out there. We felt as Khaleesi, looking for our dragons. And afterwards, we jumped to San Sebastián. There, we walked along the different beaches, without missing the most famous one, La Concha. Finally, we climbed the Igueldo Hill, where we enjoyed one of the most spectacular sunsets of our lives.
But this is just a tiny bit of what the trip really felt like. Even if it is impossible to express all the moments and emotions in just a few lines, we couldn’t miss what our international students told us about it:
“I met so many people, from all over the world! This three days looked like a entire week, I just couldn’t have enough! Ahead to another city, ahead to the sea, admiring to one of the most beautiful sunset I ever seen, spending another day with amazing people sharing one common desire, fully enjoy this amazing experience, not losing a second of it! ¡Gracias a todos!”
Benedetta Bassetti, Italy
“The ESN trip to Euskadi was a fantastic trip and I’m glad I had the opportunity to go! The beautiful scenery, the city tours of Bilbao and San Sebastián, and of course watching the sunset over ‘playa de la concha’ were only some of the many highlights ! Also there was great atmosphere amongst the group which really made for a fun and enjoyable weekend! Thank you for organising a weekend to remember!”
Sarah Sayers, Ireland
Stefano Pedarra, Italy
Thank you Benedetta, Sarah and Stefano for sharing your experience!
We hope to see you all in the next trip!
