You have probably been around Barcelona for some months already. Or you just arrived a couple of weeks ago. Or are you maybe a future Erasmus student who is just trying to choose which should your new home for the upcoming academic year? Whatever may be the case, the Catalan capital is much more than Gaudí, a sunny beach and a worldwide football reference.
If you’d like to impress your visitors and act like a wander around like a true local, these are some of the hidden places you should know about:
Temple d'August
Tucked away inside a medieval building in the Gothic quarter of Barcelona, we can find the four remaining 9m columns of the Roman August temple dated back to the first century BC. You can find it on C/ Paradís 10, near Plaça Sant Jaume.
Mirador de Mundet
Bunkers offer an amazing view of Barcelona’s skyline, but that is not the only sight seeing spot in the city. If you want a more cosy, humble and chill place, try the swing in Mirador de Mundet (Ctra. Horta a Cerdanyola, 39).
Antic Teatre
Antic Teatre is an independent social and cultural centre, and it is known as one of the flagships for today’s independent live performance arts scene. You can find it between the Palau de la Música and the Santa Caterina market, near Urquinaona. Its hidden bar and interior terrace will not let you down.

Fotomosaic Joan Fontcuberta
Valentine’s Day is near and there is no better place to show your significant other! This wall (Plaça Isidre Nonell, Ciutat Vella) was build in 2014 and it is a representation of love and freedom made of hundreds of photos. A picture there is a must!
Jardins del Palau Reial de Pedralbes
Wander around Jardins del Palau Reial de Pedralbes (Avinguda Diagonal, 686), one of the largest gardens in Barcelona, equivalent to 8 football fields! A place where you will stumble upon magnificent and hidden sculptures and architectures. You cannot miss it!
Plaça de la Virreina
Feel like in a town in the middle of Barcelona city. Plaça Virreina, in Gràcia quarter, still keeps its XIXth century spirit and is a perfect spot to relax at a bar terrace right before or after enjoying a non commercial movie at Cines Verdi.
Claustre de la Biblioteca Nacional (Jardins de Rubió i Lluch)
The Raval neighbourhood is one you must not miss when visiting the city. In the heart of it, there is the National Library of Catalonia (Carrer de l’Hospital, 56). Its cloister is both antique and excepcional, and walking throughout its corridors is a tremendous experience. Don’t miss it!
Parc de Cervantes
Spring has sprung in Barcelona! Parc de Cervantes (Avinguda Diagonal, 706) is one of the best places to feel that this wonderful time of the year is already here. Go check it and take pictures of the 2000 different kind of roses that you can spot there!
Biblioteca Pública Arús
Did you know that Barcelona has its own replica of the Statue of Liberty? You can find this and many more antiques at the small but beautiful Biblioteca Pública Arús (Passeig de Sant Joan, 26). Don’t miss this Harry Potter like library!
